I agree with you, Loz. As soon as one of those register, why can,t the mods just take the off altogether, they are just irritating.
There is acctually one that has put up posts, but a told the moderator about it and he removed the posts. _________________ Break the rules and make a fool out of me |

There is a way of keeping these spammers out. On some forums/fora you have to be accepted first (by the moderator?) or somekind of activation link in an e-mail. If i remember correctly the Kiling Joke forum worked in that way, but they use(d) different software not phpBB. _________________ "Somebody's been putting pineapple juice in my pineapple juice!"

I complained to the Sparks Forum Moderator a couple of days ago. Surely they can put a "block" on new members until they get approved? _________________ http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=678905447 |

It's getting worse, Day by Day.
Moderators! Please remove this junk!
Else, a lot of potential new fans will be disgusted. As am I.
PLEASE! Wake up!
Lose these posters! |

Like you said, Loz, there are so many of these popping up each day...two within the past couple of hours.
It doesn't offend me, as I don't plan to click on the links or anything....it just makes me wonder how interested or rather, disinterested, the moderators are in this site.....if they are not really moderating...
just a thought...I could be wrong... |

Just thought I would look over the list of recent members...just to see how many are "questionable" In the past DAY there have been about 40 "questionable" (they are promoting sex web sites) members who have joined.
AGAIN...I am not offended by this as I do not plan to look these up, but I am annoyed that there are so few controls in place to stop this.
Any negativity towards the band is picked up in a second...but this is okay?
I am tired of the obvious neglect of the band here, and other places... where it might matter...
I have no need to return here anymore---I was a fan here for many years. Too bad as I still love the band's music, but not the band's philosophy.

I know better than to click on these links too....but I wish they weren't there...simply because,as has been said,a newcomer...who might be quite young can access them...after all this is an open age group site. |

Please don't blame the band or the moderator. There are many website on the internet with forums that have the same problem(s). It's very timeconsuming and thus costly to keep up with this. As a systemadminstrator i daily have to deal with this at work and it no fun. However hackers and spammers think it's fun or good business to work in this way and going after them with lawyers is even more costly. Due to seceurity holes in operating and application software (windows, php, sql etc) these folks are able to do their worst.
I ask you, is all the mail you receive 'wanted'? If not than you get/got spammed and if you can't keep your own mailbox clean why be so harsh on others that have the same troubles.
receiving SPAM is not a philosophy! just annoying. _________________ "Somebody's been putting pineapple juice in my pineapple juice!"

Well said Eddy! Ophelia, don't give up! It will be fixed!
Just the software here (phpBB) is kind of old and prone to attack.
Sophistication will come back! |

"Masturbating Indian Princ" (sic) looks very interesting to Sparks fans.
Please! Mods!!! Get rid of them as soon as they appear!
The site will collapse from disgust if you cant just delete them when they arrive. I know it's time consuming, but please deal with it.
If I can help, let me know. I have guns. |

#1845 is rather embarrassing even for me, which I'm not english-born.
A way to prevent the forum being overcrowded with this annoyance is to "suspend" all new registering requests, for submission to the acceptance by the admins.
Another way is to install php security updates - not an expert on this field, but I know people who got rid of this problem through means provided by php. If you need support, I can address you to a friend in the US who solved this pestering trouble time ago.
Cheers!

Site Administrators have been working on this problem now for a while.
There is now in position a new log in set-up which will stop these spam-bot types from registering. |

I've noticed that there still seems to be some "spam" type registrations....I asked amate of mine(who knows more about these things than I do) about it...he said that there are call centres doing this in the lull between phone calls they log onto sites and register(at a set price per posting)....and that's how they beat setups made to avoid automated registration. |
